Malaysia raises the issue of Singapore's reclamation works at an international tribunal. As part of a settlement on Sept 1, 2005, Malaysia and Singapore agree to address concerns over the reclamation.
Both countries also agree to negotiate a new extended maritime border but nothing comes out of that pledge.
They claim that despite a previous agreement to negotiate the maritime border off Tuas, Singapore has to date refused to do so.
However, the Singapore High Commission denies this, stating that Malaysia had never proposed any negotiation. It added that Singapore was open to finding an amicable resolution.
On 14 March 2019, Malaysia and Singapore moved to deescalate the situation by agreeing to revert to the old port limits and for a joint-committee to negotiate where the border off Tuas should be.
They also agree to resort to third-party international dispute settlement if the committee cannot find a resolution.
