A video emerges in 2007. It reveals lawyer VK Lingam talking with powerful friends about judges' appointments.[1]

A royal inquiry confirms the video is real.[2] This raises suspicion about past cases handled by certain judges.
One such case was future chief justice Ahmad Fairuz voiding DAP's election win in 1995, without ordering a by-election.[3]

In another case, judge Eusoff Chin awards RM2mil to Lingam's tycoon client in a defamation suit in 2000.[4]
In 1995, Eusoff also convened a Federal Court panel to overturn a decision that did not favour Lingam's client.[7]
Lingam later offered Eusoff a bungalow. When the judge was unsatisfied, Lingam offered him land to build a house.[8]
Lingam claimed he and powerful friends whispered in the prime minister's ear to get the judges they wanted.[9]
An appointments committee was set up after the expose, but the prime minister still gets the final
say on judges.
